Larkfell House is a small, family-run bed & breakfast on the edge of Grasmere. We have five en-suite rooms, a lounge with a log fire, and a garden that looks straight up at Helm Crag.

We keep things simple: comfortable rooms, breakfast cooked to order with Cumbrian produce, and honest advice on where to walk, eat and park.

Easy to find, easy to park

We're on a quiet lane on the north side of the village, off the A591 between Ambleside and Keswick.

By car

M6 junction 36, then the A591 through Kendal and Windermere. About 35 minutes. Five free spaces on site.

By train

Windermere station, with connections via Oxenholme on the West Coast Main Line. We're 20 minutes on from there.

By bus

The 555 runs from Windermere station to Grasmere every 30 minutes. Get off at the village green and walk three minutes north.

Questions guests ask before booking

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in is 15:00 to 20:00, and check-out is by 10:30. If you'll arrive later, call us and we'll leave a key in the lockbox. You're welcome to leave bags with us before or after.

Is there a minimum stay?

Stays that include a Saturday night are two nights minimum. Other nights you can book a single night.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancel free of charge up to 7 days before arrival. After that we charge the first night, unless we can re-let the room.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes, in the Garden Room, which has its own door to the garden. We charge £20 per stay and provide a bed, bowls and towels. Up to two well-behaved dogs.

Is parking free?

Yes. We have five spaces on site, one per room, plus a 7 kW EV charger you can use at cost.

Are children welcome?

Children aged 8 and over are welcome. The Lark Suite's sofa bed suits one child; the third guest rate is £35 a night including breakfast.

Do you cater for dietary needs?

Yes. We cook gluten-free, vegetarian, vegan and dairy-free breakfasts every week. Let us know when you book so we can buy in.

How do I pay?

We take a card to hold the booking and charge the balance on departure. We accept all major cards and contactless.
